Energy Therapies

By Liz Temple

What are they?

Energy therapies are those that work on the person’s vibrational or biophysical level rather than the biochemical one. Examples of these are acupuncture, homeopathy, reflexology, reiki and chiropractic.

They are based on the theory that we are more than just biological machines, and that we are a vibrational force or ‘energy body’ that acts like an electromagnetic field, sometimes referred to as our ‘aura’, ‘life force’, ‘chi’ or ‘prana’. This is reflected in our physical makeup, right down to our DNA. It governs when it replicates, and when it goes wrong.

In fact, our biological part is merely a denser vibrational frequency than our energy body. Advances in quantum physics have recognised this, though conventional medicine presently has trouble taking this on.

As a result, we act like both particles and waves, therefore both Newtonian laws and Einsteinian electromagnetic wave theories are appropriate. Resonance is particularly appropriate in this context.

Resonance

Everything in the universe vibrates at different frequencies. Matter vibrates at a dense frequency that we can sense with our senses and measure with our instruments. Our physical body is dense and can be seen and measured.  Our life force is of a much finer set of frequencies.

Resonance is when two things vibrate at the same frequency. If you set off a tuning fork in a room, another of the same note will start to vibrate.

Thoughts and beliefs

They also have a vibrational frequency, and so when two people are attracted to each other it is because their frequencies resonate as they are similar. So it isn't chemistry but physics that's important! The important thing to remember when changing thoughts is that you change your vibrational frequency at the same time.  If you start to only think positive thoughts, and clear all negative stuff,  not only will you feel happier, but negative people around you will either find new friends or make similar changes to remain with you, and you literally attract (like a magnet) positive people who will resonate with you. When these changes occur, you are said to make ‘quantum shifts’.

Energy therapies have the capability to do this because of their methods, without having to have a deep knowledge of all your thoughts and beliefs. Homeopathic Treatment offers substances that resonate with the frequencies of the sick person and create a reaction that results in cancelling out the vibration. Acupuncture realigns energy blocks in the body, thus changing vibrations.

There are many more modes of energy therapy. Singing bowls create sound vibrations to resonate; crystals have their own resonant vibrations; reiki and other body techniques manipulate the ‘energy bodies’ ; distance healing and spiritual healing rely on the intention of the healer which has it’s own frequency; and of course magnetic therapy speaks for itself! Even ‘placebo’ reactions, slated by some medics, work as a result of changing beliefs, therefore may change frequency of vibration.

Any kind of therapy that changes thought will change vibration at the same time. Thought meets the body at emotion. If the emotion is not expressed, it will create illness of the same set of frequencies, though at a lower octave than the thoughts.

Emotion has long been recognised to be connected to various parts of the body in other traditional medical systems such as traditional Chinese and ayurvedic systems.

This explains why these modes of healing not only help the body but the mind as well. There is a whole new science called ‘psychoneuroimmunology’ investigating this connection.

Self-help Energy Therapies

There are a growing number of self-help energy therapies available for mental health. Many can be easily used without consulting a therapist, but do if you have a diagnosed condition or would rather not attempt these on your own.

Many will have tried ‘rescue remedy’, which is a Bach Flower Remedy, available in chemists and supermarkets. There is more information on this in Flower Remedies.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)postulates that when we have emotional pain, it is due to an ‘energy imbalance’ created when we think about a situation. To release this emotional pain, we ‘tune in’ by thinking about the situation while at the same time going through a series of tapping with our fingers on points of the body similar to acupuncture points. This creates an incredibly quick relaxation response to the thoughts, replacing the previous tension. It can be used for acute situations, phobias and long term emotional problems. There have been amazing results with Vietnam veterans and other sufferers of post traumatic stress disorder.

There are many other similar ‘meridian therapies’ that are as effective. Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT) is another technique that can be learned and used in a self-help way.

Hypnosis has been popular for many years as a cure for many neurotic problems, but ZPoint Process is an incredible system of self-hypnosis or internal calming. This involves ‘clearing’ thoughts, emotions and patterns of beliefs and behaviour that maintain pain. This is a simple process that involves programming your sub-conscious mind with instructions, then using a cue word with intention to clear the pain.

All of the above therapies have their own websites with free downloadable instructions.

Please also consider trying Intentional Detachment Practice. This is inspired by EFT andZPoint process in particular, and by the theories in Minding your Mind and You can Pull Yourself Together.

These all take into account the sabotaging beliefs that hold us back, mentioned in Mind Ecology.

We learn by association.

In the primitive part of our brain, it is thought that an incident becomes associated with the fear response. Any similar incident will trigger the same fear response. If the fear response is changed to a relaxation one when thinking of the incident, then it loses its ability to create fear. In other words, we ‘rewire’ our brain to keep calm and clear. The above therapies do this very effectively.

The Law of Attraction

These energy theories also help explain why the ‘Law of Attraction’ could be possible. The film ‘The Secret’ is about this, and it is talked about in many new age circles.

Please also read my articles on Homeopathy for more information on how this treatment fits in to 'Energy Therapies'.
