Homeopathy Key Information
By Liz Temple
-Homeopathy is a system of medicine or therapy that encourages the person's natural healing mechanisms
-Homeopathic remedies take the form of tablets or drops, which are made in such a way that they are very safe, even for babies, children and pregnant woman, and can be used alongside conventional drugs and in conjunction with other alternative therapies. The remedies are prepared from many different sources; mainly from naturally occurring substances, such as plants animals and minerals.
-The remedies are given using the principle, 'like cures like'. A healthy person can take a substance and this causes the symptom. This substance as a homeopathic remedy can cure those symptoms in an ill person. For example, arsenic poisoning causes diarrhoea, anxiety, chilliness and restlessness. The remedy made from this can cure these symptoms.
-Homeopathy is an 'energy medicine'. The substances used are diluted so highly that in many cases there are no molecules remaining in the end product. It is thought that an 'energy imprint' of the substance can act on the persons ‘energy body’ similar to other energy therapies such as acupuncture and reflexology.
-The remedy signals the body by the principle of resonance, which speeds up natural healing mechanisms that have been blocked for some reason before. This brings the body back into balance, causing profound changes compared with the often temporary control of symptoms caused by conventional drugs.
-Due to this difference from the conventional approach, remedies only have to be given until the body has started its own defense mechanisms to work, which is usually a short time, and often after only one or two doses.
